First time trying to aquascape for my Red Sea Reefer 170. How does it look and any recommendations?

@wolffpackone #WelcomeToR2R !

I like it, but more importantly, do you like it?!

Maybe you can tell us a little more about what you want to achieve with this tank.
  • Types of corals you want to keep
  • Types of fish you want to keep
  • Some of the equipment you plan to use
All of these will help give some additional feedback on the aquascape for whether the fish will "interact" well with it and coral placement will be easy, and how it may impact flow..

I want to have a mixed reef, going to start off with softies, then get some LPS, and maybe SPS down the line. As far as fish go, I was thinking of a clown pair, blenny, and firefish at first. That might change in the future too.

As far as equipment, I have a hydra 26HD, a curve 5, a sicce silent 2.0, and when it’s done cycling, I’ll get a MP10.

I like the fish selection. Glad you are not attempting to try a tang o_O haha.

Check your total height on the rockwork with the water level in the tank. You may find going SPS that your tallest peak will not allow much vertical room for growth. I love my SPS so my rockwork is typically half or slightly above half of my total height to allow for growth.

I like the idea above of making some more crevasses and caves too. Dartfish typically like caves at the sand and blennies typically like an opening in the rock with only one entrance and exit high on the rock work so they can see their kingdom. Clowns are easy to please!

Here's the advice I was give back in the day.....think tripods. This way it creates caves for your fish. So put down three rocks about the same height...With a little separation, and now put a large rock on to p of those three.

Also you may want to drill some holes for frag plugs...makes it easier to mount things in the future.

Personally I would not glue it together..I like the option of moving stuff around in the future.

Looks very natural and seems like you have several pass throughs so you should get good circulation. Assume you're going to leave a margin around sides of your tank. I wouldn't glue pieces together for ease of future movement; looks like rocks form a tight stack.

I agree. Little more open on the bottom will help with getting some flow and more places for fish to hide !!

Looking good..... I'm liking it.
