First time Canister filtration cleaning help

When I clean my fluval 206 canister filtration for the first time how should I go about cleaning it and what not to do can someone let me know.

What do you have in the canister filter? Are you using the stock components? How long has it been in use?

Here is what I do:

I do maintenance every other week when I do my water change. I replace two sponges, one bag of carbon and swish the ceramic rings in the water change water. I clean the lid as well.

Using the stock Component. Almost a month now. It's a 20 gallon not long.
