Hey guys. So my tanks been up for 3 months maybe longer and I am starting to fill it with a couple corals to see how they do. I have a Duncan and a tiny green star polyp frag. I want them to grow and be healthy. All I do is water changes to replace trace elements. What I want to know is if it it necessary to start dosing. What is the safest things to dose to get proper calcium mag and alk for coral growth. Something easy and inexpensive that I can just dose the water with. Thanks!

First step is to start testing your water for alkalinity calcium and magnesium. If you don't have many corals your water changes maybe enough that you won't need to dose anything.

+1 without knowing the perimeters. You would be guessing they are needed and may do more damage. With only a few corals and regular water changes you should be fine. As you expand your collection and monitor perimeters. You may have to start adding to balance calcium, alk and magnesium. Simple dosing is easy, but how much to add can only accurate with perimeter testing.

The type of salt your using is going to determine what your peramiters are in the beginning!
