Hey guys so I noticed this thing on my clowny about two days ago, and this is my first time dealing with a fish injury, so I'd like some quick advice!

I've had this little guy for about a year now and he used to live in a smaller tank with another clown, but about a week ago I transferred them both to my main 29 gallon reef. I took out all the other fish and now it's only these two clowns and a watchman goby along with some corals and cleaner shrimp, blood shrimp and pistol shrimp. Everyone gets along fine and no one attacks each other.

He's never had any kind of issue whatsoever, and now that I've transferred him he suddenly has this white injury on his side. :( I'm not sure if he got hurt when I moved him and it just got infected or something. He's still eating and swimming around like normal, and the other fish are perfectly fine. Any ideas on what this could be or what I could do? Could it be contagious?

I've been trying to catch him to move him to a small quarantine tank, but he just keeps zipping around like crazy lol. If I need to quarantine then I'd like to catch him without having to move the rocks...

My current params are these:
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrate - between 5 and 10ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
(The other params are fine, but if you guys want specifics then just ask and I'll post 'em)

Any advice you guys can give would be highly appreciated! I would hate to lose my little baby!!

Also sorry for the blurry pics. He doesn't like staying still lol

Anyone?

A little fuzzy- Aggression not uncommon and and isolation will be a start. Additionally, depending on severity, treatment with antibiotic may be warranted.
Clearer pics will really help

I'll continue to try to catch him. It'll be a bit tricky though.. lol.

And I'll try to take clearer pics. Kinda hard with him swimming around :]

From fuzzy pics, looks like lymph. Look into that and see if it matches. If it keeps spreading, may need meds.

Good news!! I was able to catch it and have temporarily put it into a breeder box while I set up a small quarantine tank (I only have a 3 gallon available at the moment). Here are clearer pics of him.

I looked into lymph and I'm not sure if it's that. Lymph has patches all of the fish's body and this clowny has just one big patch on his side. What could it be??

Injury from another fish, most likely. As vetteguy said.
I wonder how then.. He's been living with the other clown for over a year, and the watchman just ignores everyone. Weird.

Either way, how should I go about treating him? Or should I just leave him be

I've taken more pics of the clown. Mind if you take another look?

May be a bite injury but looks to have bacterial injury stared. Ruby Rakky pro will help this greatly and is reef safe

Did you mean Ruby Rally? Lol

And I think I'd rather treat him in a small tank instead of the display. Would a 3 gallon be okay for now?

Hey guys, anyone else with more opinions on this little guy's issue is really helpful :]

The most important thing is not to freak out and over treat. If you don’t have a qt/hospital ready then you need to really watch of for ammonia. IMHO, if it is just a bit of bacterial infection from injury, you may do worse putting him in that unchecked 3 gallon tank

Well I was thinking that if I did the 3 gallon then I would take out 2 gallons of my DT and then just 1 gallon of fresh saltwater so that way I dont have to worry about starting a cycle again.

Would that be a good idea? Or should I just let him be in the tank? I'm really not too keen on the idea of dosing any type of med into the DT

The bacteria that break down ammonia mostly live on surfaces, not in the water. Do you run any filter floss or bio media in the main tank that you could use in your qt?

Yeah I have some filter floss I could put into the 3 gallon filter. Would that be good enough so an ammonia spike doesn't happen?

If it's been running in your main system it could be enough. But monitor ammonia. Buy a seachem badge thing. Also, dose some fritz turbo or biospira just in case, to boost the cycle.

For sure. I got some bacteria on hand already so I'll just put some in when I start the tank.

What med do you recommend for the clown though?
