First time dosing two part , started with manual 10ml , part B Alk

Today I manually dosed one part of the two part Red Sea solution . I know I only put in 10ml Of the part B alk solution , that’s a fifth of the cap red sea provides . I’m sure it was part B because I haven’t even broke the seal on the calcium part A bottle.

I have 260 gallon display and about 140 gallons sump in the garage . I dumped the 10 mls into one of my barrels of the sump . It immediately turned white , what i assume was some sort of precipitate and circled the barrel as I have a Powerhead always mixing the barrel. An hour later my trident read an alkalinity jump from 9.1 to nearly 12 . I re ran the trident test to confirm. Surely I did something wrong ?

Here are the instructions for part B. Based on these it sounds as if it was added to around 80 gallons of water to get a jump that high. Do you have a test kit you can check it with?
Dosing Instructions: 1 mL will raise the alkalinity of 25 gallons by 0.036 meq/l (0.1dKH)

Was the Alk increase in the 400 gallon system or just in a mixing container?

Thanks mate.

The dose was added to the container but that container(s) are plumbed to and from the sump .

The trident reads from the sump on its way to the return .

I dosed the container but they are plumbed directly in circulation with the sump . The trident reads from the sump.

I went through pretty much the same thing last night. Started using BRS 2 part added the recommended 12.8ml and retested after an hour it showed a spike from 8.6 to 10.1 and I was only trying to get to 9.0. I retest earlier today and it was at 8.9. Might jus need a bit more time to mix into the system properly

One thing to check on the BRS calculator is if you are using soda ash or sodium bicarbonate. The soda as is about 2x the potency as the sodium bicarbonate.
