So I’ve had my tank running for a long time now off straight up weekly water changes with fritz pro salt. I’ve got a 28g biocube with an HOB skimmer adding an extra gallon. I’ve got soft corals, LPS, and 2 SPS corals 1 Montipora digitada and 1 normal monti cap. All in all 10 soft corals, 4 LPS, 2 SPS and 2 RBA. First of all I’m going to test my calcium and alkalinity to see what’s going on but I’m sure the corals are consuming a lot and my levels are most likely dropping before my water changes. Also lately I haven’t seen much growth with my LPS or SPS corals. I want to go the way of 2 part dosing does anyone have a product recommendation? I want something easy that already comes as a liquid and also takes care of magnesium.

What test kits do you have?

To test how much alk/calcium your corals are using, do a water change and test the alk and calcium after. The test every day without dosing or water changing for a week. Then you will have how much your corals consume per day/week. Then, if you truly cannot keep up with water changes, dose calcium and alkalinity equally. To my understanding, premixed solutions are more expensive in the long run. I would recommend using @Randy Holmes-Farley recipe for dosing. Hopefully he can shed some more light on this for you.

What I use. It’s not a liquid but you make it a liquid your self. If you’re going to ship the Juggs with water then it’s going to weigh more and companies will have to pay more so that’s why you see it in powder like so. If I were you after you do a water change measure levels wait a week or 2 and see how low your levels are and that will tell you how much your corals are using. Take the amount that was consumed divide by number of days and that’s how much your corals are consuming per day and dose accordingly.

I know this doesn’t have to do with dosing but ever try reef roids? This stuff is awesome. Crazy coral growth

Thanks for the input:) and no I haven’t tried reef roids yet but that’s what I’ve been hearing I need to get some!

I was looking into Seachem reef fusion 1&2 for calcium magnesium and alkalinity. What do you guys think?

As far as test kits I was thinking API calcium and alkalinity. I don’t have the cash right now for Hanna test kits

Only thing about api is that it will only say 8 or 9 for dkh it doesn’t say 8.5 or 8.9 so it’s harder to get exact amount of dosing. I know you said you don’t have enough for Hannah. If you got both it would be $100 but here’s this

Still $60 but comes with 3 test kits. Red Sea test kits are awesome

Yeah and I saw one that had calcium, alkalinity and magnesium for $47 so I think I’ll get those

Wouldn't dose anything till you test .salifert test kits really one of the best test kits easy to use and Amazon has a 6 pk of alk cal mag phos nitrate and ph all for around $ 80 those are all ya need to start . Once you know your #s then bulk reef supply 2 part is easy and cheap to use .

Salifert kits are awesome and very accurate but the instructions are hard to follow n miss important information to test watch Billy pipes salifert test kit usage the right way on YouTube very helpful in showing how to use them the right way to be accurate but salifert kits are the best for your money api kits are only good for your water quality not chemistry.. hope that helps n seriously check out Billy pipes YouTube channel..........HAPPY REEFING

I had good luck with FUEL by Seachem. After adding more SPS I add AcroPower on opposite days of fuel.

Also make sure to add live algae’s and pods from time time.
