First time drilling a tank...chipped glass

Tried to drill a hole for an external overflow for the first time. When I got through, a decent sized chip came off the outer side of the glass along the hole. Pic attached, sorry it's not the greatest. Will the gasket from the bulkhead still keep this from leaking or will I need to fill it somehow?

Mine chipped worse than that. I put a bead of silicon around the overflow box to make sure it holds together.

I see the chip on the left at 9 o'clock. That chip will be fine. Is that a crack on the upper right at 1 o'clock?

Its not uncommon for them to chip off at the exit point of the bit, id run a little dab of silicone along the perimeter and with the gasket it should be fine.

I'm not sure the difference between what I'm calling a chip/crack lol. But I was concerned with the part at 12-1 o clock where the outer glass wouldn't be completely flat. It's indented in because a piece broke off the outer side

That's fine. I see now the hair like thing near there isn't a crack. A little silicone will take care of that. Make sure to use the right silicone. Lots of it has other chemicals that aren't fish safe (mold inhibitors, etc).

No that's his shoulder in the reflection.

Those chips are nothing. Your bulkhead fitting will cover them most likely. You'll never even know.

Thank you! Visually I couldn't see them, the bulkhead covered it. But I was worried about the gasket not being on flat glass and if that would let water sneak through

worse case, if you can find a second gasket install it on the outside of the glass before attaching the bulkhead too

Ohhhhh, I see unfortunately, until you leak test you'll never know 100%

Silicone for extra safety first if you want, otherwise you'll have to do it later (If it leaks). Up to you.

I had on chip worse than that before and to still use it I took 2 pieces of 1/8" glass and siliconed them to top and bottom of the hole and basically sandwiched the glass with the bulkhead it never leaked.
