First time reefer hopeful

Hello, I'm new to saltwater and hoping to get my first tank soon.

I've had freshwater tanks in the past and think I'm ready to try saltwater.

Today I'll be looking at an established 90g that I'm interested in purchasing.
Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Hope the tank works out for you!

Welcome! Take detailed notes from the seller. Ie. What salt used, age of the light bulbs , calcium and alkalinity brands and doses, etc.

Good read thx.

I was planning on keeping all the sand and adding another bag because of the goby. I plan on checking all params before putting the livestock in. I know there's a sand sifting goby, and lots of other "critters" in the sand bed. That's what I was told, I don't know what all is in there but am wondering if I should be more concerned about moving all the sand?

Chances are the sand bed is going to be dirty.I would pick out as many critters as you can by hand. This will most likely be hermit crabs or snails.Watch out for red colored bristle worms! Siphon the sand well during the breakdown process.Keep the cleanest looking sand as this will help restore the beneficial bacteria populations.I would toss any substrate that is muddy looking.

Red ones just bad, or do they bite?? Would A kitty litter scooper work for collecting the critters or should I plan on digging through by hand?

Not necessarily. They have their purpose. However they can become overly abundant and the bristles along their bodies are extremely irritating! A clean kitty litter scoop should work fine.Pick out the obvious by hand or scoop, first.Once again, clean the bed well.Try to do this step last as you won't be able to see a thing once you stir up the sand bed.
