I am setting up a tank for the first time I am trying to make a list of what else I should get before starting to make my life easier and the process as good as it can be. Below is a list of what I have and or what I am getting any advice would be appreciated. Looking to have a mainly SPS dominated tank bare bottom with a few lps and few fish.

Tank: Redsea Reefer 170
Skimmer: Reef Octopus Elite 150sss
Flow: 2 MP10
Return: Varios 4
Lights: Still trying to figure out what to get Leaning towards Radion Xr15 pro's x2 with reefbrites

any Co2, algae scrubber, doser or anything else that would help my tank before I set it up?.

Thanks,

I'm not an expert, but I'm not sure a Reefer 170 needs two XR15s?
Hey, Thanks for the reply. I was going to dial them down just looking for a lot of coverage. But maybe there is a better option that I am not sure of.

Good test kits-I like Salifert and Hanna

RODI unit- This one is cheaper from amazon or a more expensive one from BRS

Refractometer

Set of aquarium tools

Coral/Rock epoxy

Thermometer

Siphon for water changes

Media bags

Glass cleaner

basic fish meds

Coral dip

Thank you very much!. I did set up a Rodi, But I do not have any of the tools or testing items.

Doser is an almost must. Versa if you can find some and within your budget. Kamoer and red sea have decent ones that are somewhat cheaper and more readily available.

So you would go Doser before any of the scrubbers?

Yes. Algae control is more about enough herbivores, including CUC, than controlling nutrients. Once corals start growing, themselves will be one of the major consumer for nutrients. Algae filter end up completing with them. Maintain stable alk level is critical for SPS tank. Dosers are essential for that.

thank you for the info for sure!

Definitely recommend getting some good test kits and a doser for sure. Kamoer makes really good dosers that won’t break the bank. Since it’s your first tank you should definitely be patient when you start adding SPS. It’s important to get a feel for testing and dosing so you can learn how to keep things stable. Good luck!!

Will do, I am going to take it slow. I just would rather buy someone once if possible than constant upgrading.
