I'm looking to get into the hobby soon with a mixed fish/coral tank. I'm planning to purchase the Red Sea Reefer 425 XL Deluxe and Neptune Aspen controller, ordering at the end of the month. Over the past couple of weeks I've watched a few dozen hours of YouTube video including the BRS 52 week series, the BRS 5-minute series, many of the SaltwaterAquarium (Mr. Saltwater Tank) videos, and a lot of other random reef tank videos. I can confidently say I could fool someone with no knowledge into thinking I was an expert at reef tank keeping while I yet remain in a state of confusion on actually setting up and maintaining one. :)

I've long admired reef tanks and fought off the urge to start one due to time constraints but I'm retired now so should have the time to make a go of it. I've got beginner questions even after the videos and searches through the forums but I'll post elsewhere in the more suitable forum for the question. I'm looking forward to an interesting hobby and interacting on the boards here with what looks to be a helpful and friendly group.

Welcome Rick.
Sounds like you are educating yourself on reefology.
Having time to devote to this hobby will certainly help your tank.

Welcome to R2R!
You've definitely come to the right place, there are a lot of very experienced people who can help you with anything you need here. The Red Sea tanks are really great, if you like you can start a build thread as well where everyone can follow along :)

welcome to R2R! I am a fellow retiree and new reefer, this is a great resource. I grew up listening to commercials for a piano store, as a result i could spoof my way to convincing people i was a player because i could rattle off brand names. but could not really play and made sure there was no actual pianos in the vicinity.
the way to learn is to attempt to apply what you think you understand. on a small scale. or plunge in fearless!

hi welcome to the reef going to love it here!!
lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun....
