Picked up a macro lens and took a couple shots with it today. Led's make it a little challenging but I'm sure I will learn to work around that. Here's the first few images from the new lens.

Notice how it blurred out the mouth of the acan, things like that I havent found a way to work around very annoying. Are you using porthole as well?

Yeah I’m using an avast I narrowed from a friend. I’ll be purchasing the building an obsession tube once I have a tank up and running.

I think you just need to close the arpeture down some is all. These shots of mine were all f4-f8 I think. Everything around 2.8-4 on a full frame with the lens I’m using has a rediculously shallow depth of field so if your shooting something similar I’d assume that’s the issue.

@Phelipe's Ocean I think those shots are really cool, even with the out of focus mouth!

+1 to closing your aperture some more. f/8 seems to work well for most people. I can't speak from experience though as my lens is shipping currently lol

Like @marinesnow mentioned you'll have to play with shutter and ISO to get the right exposure. The coral shooting sticky thread has some great info in this section.

In order to get a lot of depth of field, you can close the aperture way down and use a long exposure to compensate for the lack of light. For example, these shots were taken at f/36 with a 3 second exposure. For these longer exposures, you need a tripod and I also turn off the flow pumps to reduce any polyp movement.

Mine are with the Sony 90mm macro 2.8 and the first gen Sony A7 body. This is my first time shooting macro so there’s plenty of room for growth but I don’t currently have a tank running to practice on.

Nice! - You've inspired me to do better than my IPhone with an orange filter.
