I've set up a couple tanks to use TTM treat my four fish for suspected marine ich. Things are moving ok but I'll be doing my first transfer tonight and I'm curious what the best transfer method is to avoid contamination. What successful methods have worked for anyone?

Hands. Grab the fish, gently shake of as much of the old tank water off as you can and into the new tank.

I'm not sure I can catch them by hand, it took me almost 4 hours to catch them in the display tank!!
The colander seems like a good idea. Would I need to make sure it doesn't touch the second tank's water when putting the fish in?

A small amount of water is not harmful as most of the TTM method relies on the life cycle of ich while it has fallen off the fish and at the bottom of the bucket.

I never had an issue when I used to do TTM.

I'm talking about moving them between the TTM tanks. I use 10 gallon tanks. Easy to grab em.

I get it, sorry I didn't mean to make it sound like I was knocking it.
I'm using 10 gal tanks too, I just had flash backs of trying to catch them...lol

No worries. Find it pretty easy to corral them in a 10 gallon. Guess I got quick hands. ;)

Oh my wife was having a blast watching try to catch 'em...
They were looking WAY better, practically no signs anymore, after less than 24hrs in the quarantine tank. Is that normal or am I looking at something other than ich?

Depends on stage they are in but yes could drop off within 24 hours. That's why TTM works. You transfer them within 72 hours before ich becomes water borne again.

Ok. I understand the concept I just wasn't sure if such a rapid response to being taken out of the display tank meant I could possibly be dealing with something else.
Thank you for your help. I hope they all come through, I'd hate to lose any!

If you follow the protocol as required, it works. I actually use Hybrid TTM. 2x Peroxide baths 6 days apart for Velvet and Uronema and GC/Prazi 7 days apart for flukes. Hasn't failed me yet. Good luck.
