hi I've recieved my ro machine with few instructions, for first use how long do I dispose of the water and where am I flushing it from? before the membrane to protect membrane and di or after the membrane to protect di?, and how long before each batch would I flush for also? many thanks

I just followed instructions want to say it was either like an hour or x volume.

When I do a batch now I let it run until TDS shows 0 and stays that way. Usually 3-5 minutes. No idea if that's proper or not, just what I do :)

Definitely suggest a tds meter very simple and cheap.

Do you have a TDS meter?

Lets start with a few pics of the setup. That will determine how you run the system, and whether it has a fluch valve, or DI bypass.

it has a flow restricted valve which I'm assuming the waste pipe plugs into? I do have a tds meter to install but not sure it has the right fitting I'm just in the process of plumbing it all in as you can see so I'm not going to be running it u till I get the tds meter on

is your DI cartridge horizontal? If so I would try and mount that vertically. The reason being, with it laying on it's side water can "channel" through the Di instead of going through it.

And yes your correct, the waste line plugs into the flow restrictor. I see no flush valve, or DI bypass.

the whole thing is mounted vertically and the di is horizontal, sorry for the rushed pics, I dont see any flush valve, the membrane has an IN from the carbon an Out into the flow restricted and an OUT into the di chamber, is it best to have the probe in the end socket or middle of the T or does it not matter for the tds meter?

How many probes does the TDS meter have? They usually just plug into a john guest T fitting.

So the 2 outputs of the RO membrane should go into the input on the DI canister, and one going to waste. I would find a way to mount that DI canister vertically. Otherwise you'll just end up wasting DI as you think it's depleted(TDS raises), when in reality the water is just channeling though it.

it's a double probe one for before di one for after I believe. it came as seen in the pic

Also if you hold up that T fitting so it looks like a T, the probe should go in the bottom of the T so it's inline with the water to pass by it.

that is how I see them in the pics, the idea of plumbing it before di is to protect the di I seen, particularly with first use monitoring the tds until it's at a low enough level to go through di. otherwise it kills the di pretty quick. sure it was a brs video

Yes but not in the ends, the water will pass right by it and never measure properly. It should be in the top of the stream where water is passing by it.

If you have no DI bypass valve, putting the TDS meter before it makes no sense other then leasuring the TDS out of the membrane, which is a good idea. I measure at 3 points, going into the system, out of the RO, then out of the DI.

This explains it better then I can.

I was thinking of putting tds meter before di but draining the water straight into a bucket (blue squiggle) so it's not going to the di until I plug it back in when the tds is low enough, is that not a good idea until I get a valve to stop water manually? I dont have the equipment at present but could get it delivered in a few days time. I want to protect the di as alot of videos promote that

this is what I was planning. I think you can kill your di pretty quick from first uses from ro unit hence the flushing first but unless I know the tds coming out of membrane I wont know when to connect to di for safety.
