So guys how do you calculate the 10% water that comes out of your tank? Do you get a bin with a measure to see the 45L are exact? Any tips? Do you mark the tank where 10% is?

I have two containers. One with freshly made saltwater and the other is for water that is removed. I have gallon (in your case it would be L) markings on each. So for example, if I remove 37 L to the container, I make sure that I have 37/38 L made. You don't have to remove exactly 10%. Some weeks I do 10%, 15% or 30%.

That is 112 gallons or 423 L. and the minus out the space your rocks take. How much rocks do you have.

Tank is still being set up so nothing in the tank as yet.. was thinking of 40-45L as my 10%

So best way is to have a tank where the water goes out to so you know exactly where your 10% is. Thanks!

I’m on the monthly plan. Lol. I just top off w kalk and add 2 part.

nothing will happen if you change 9% or 11%, no one knows the exact percentage that they change. 10% is just a nice round number to say, no need to measure anything, just approximate it.

For a water change, you do not have to be exact. Ten percent is a nice minimum amount but you can do larger water changes as long as you match the salinity to your display and later when you have fish and corals: temp, ALK and salinity (For large water changes).

I have 2 Brute Trash cans on casters. I have one with the new salt water. The other is empty. I turn off the return pump and powerheads. I siphon the water into the empty Brute to just a bit more than the Brute with water. Then I pump the water from the salt water Brute into the tank. After that I turn on the powerheads and return pump. I have a mark on the return section of my sump. That will draw down and I add old water back in until the water settles at the original mark. That way I have nearly exactly the same amount of water withdrawn as put in. But you can say who cares and skip the last step And just try to match the water you put in with what you take out. Probably close enough.

You do not need Brute trash cans. But it is handy to have two containers, one for removal and one for the new water.

I use a 5 gallon bucket and pour in rodi water till full x2 so got 10 gallons then pout into a bigger plastic tub and add salt and mix all night then next day simply siphon out 2 5 gallon buckets off tank water therefore I've made 10 gallons of new saltwater and take out 10 gallons saltwater so exactly same.
I do it this way as dont have to adjust my suction cup on my ato,but even if take out more than I put in,I just lower my ato after I put in mew saltwater but before turn on my ato.
And to make water changes easier I have 2 wave makers that would be out of water when do waterchange, and skimmer and ato all on same 4 way plug and just unplug the 4 way plug rather than unplug all separately.
And as said make sure ato is correct level before turning back on so extra rodi water doesn't get pumped in reducing the salinity.
But more you do water changes the more you get to know what works for you the best .
One thing I keep forgetting is if siphon water out my heater/ sponge compartment in sump, the water level drops fast as the 3 linked small compartments drop fast as small and seem to always leave the 2 heaters on,which isn't good as the glass can crack if on out of water.

Thank you all for your comments good to see different ways and means of doing water changes
