I bought two small frag plugs of zoas and want to dip them. I have coral rx pro and the directions state 30 drops per gallon of water. I don’t need a whole gallon, I will only need a few cups of water.

Is my math correct at 2 drops of coral rx pro per cup of water?

any tips on dipping zoas? First timer here...also, I assume I can dip both frags at the same time?

thanks!

It states 20 ml, or roughly 4 cap fulls per gal, so roughly 5 ml per 1/4 gal. So for a cup it would be 1.25 ml. You can dip them both at the same time. I remember dipping corals for the first time and how nervous I was as you are, its no big deal.

Thanks all. I have a 24” deep tank with two viparspectra leds running at 15% white and 30% blue hanging 10” from the water line. Do these need to start out on the sand and raised up the rock work slowly? If it matters, one is Rasta zoas, the other wasn’t named.

Starting low is the best way. Over time you will begin to know they high and low PAR areas of your tank. They will let you know how happy they are by lash extension, stretch length, open/close time.

Well...the dip went fine I guess. I didn’t see any pests, just pods. I dropped one of the plugs behind my rocks trying to put it in a hole :( I hope I can find it tomorrow when the lights come on.

I keep a lot of zoas. I'm not a fan of Coral Rx as I've had mixed to poor results with it. If I'm dipping something for pests I prefer to use Bayer as its a bigger hammer but you have to be very careful using it as it is also a pesticide.

If I'm dipping for stressed zoas, or even acclimating after shipping (dipping them in) I like Lugol's solution.

If we're looking at fugal/bacterial issues furan-2.

Another little little thing I've found handy is having dedicated dipping containers. I have a little air pump/air stone I drop into the dipping container to help move the water around the frags. Its extra but I believe it actually gets whatever you're dipping with in and around the polyps.

Coral rx works fine for zoas with me. Personally a close examination under a light is just as important to make sure theres nothing hangin on or stuck to the frag. I just use a turkey baster to make sure I get the dip in and around every crevice and a quick inspection and you should be good.
