I have a medium sized clown and a aggressive Neon dottyback I want to add a smaller clown for the current one to stay dominant will the clown I have now protect the small one from the neon dottyback once paired or will it get bullied

You can always try. Then if needed pull the dottyback out for a few weeks and then put it back in. Sometimes people rearrange the rocks before reintroducing the aggressive fish.

I did this to a male baby mandarin who was attacking the smaller female. Left him in my frag tank for a few weeks before reintroducing him. It’s been months now and they haven’t had any problems. Now they swim around together.
