Hi,
I recently completed a four year project of having a 420 gallon tank built into our house. We have gone through cycling and have done at least 6 water changes. Currently we have a blue-spotted ray, blue tang, naso tang, yellow tang, orange spotted file fish, majestic angel, and a freckled hawk fish ( a porcupine puffer is coming this week). Our set up is I guess is called a peninsula set up with artificial rock in a huge arch. My question is my husband says the tank looks boring with no color, are there things I can put in the tank that will grow on the rock that maybe the crew won't eat that can add color to the tank?

Welcome to R2R! That sounds like an awesome tank, any pictures? It will take a while for purple coraline algae to cover the rocks if you want to stick with a fish only system. Otherwise, another option would be to turn it into a reef aquarium with corals.

Hi thank you for your response. As you can see our rock seems plain and just curious if there is anything we can safely put on the rocks to add some color to it. I know having the puffer added and the angel people told me that they will eat coral and the tangs eat pretty much anything I put in to feed so I'm worried to put in expensive frags only to have them become a snack. We are in the learning process, it has taken us a while just to get through our set up and had professionals do it for us. We had the plumbing drawn into the house so we never have to bucket in water and have two (200 gallon) holding tanks in our garage that pump water through pipes to a hose. Now that we have a handle on the mechanics of the tank, would like to learn about what options I have with the tankmates we have.

If you're looking for more of a predator tank, triggerfish, other angelfish, or maybe a Clown or Sohal tang would be great options too
