Yes coral can be at risk when you alter the chemistry. I believe hermits and snails will take a hit as well.
I wouldn't recommend it if you have SPS, I've seen acros skin bubble and RTN from elevated mag levels.

Are you talking about dosing Tech M to kill bryopsis? Hopefully it's an older bottle. The newer bottles don't contain the "impurity" that was the "magic ingredient" which killed bryopsis. Elevated magnesium, in and of itself, has zero impact on bryopsis.
Honestly, I have no idea. Tech M is what I always used in the past. If I got bryopsis now, I don't know what I'd do.

Been a year or two now, I believe. I once told Kent they needed to change it back because eradicating bryopsis was all their product was really good for. Maybe after he hung up on me and got over being :mad:, he got to thinking about what I said?
No one knows. If we did, we'd just dose that instead.
But it can't be the magnesium itself because many have dosed straight Mag Chloride/Sulfate to get their levels up to 1800+ and it doesn't have any impact on bryopsis.

I haven't seen any info regarding a formula change in tech m. As far as I know it still works, though the suggested mg levels should be at 1800, just test your mg beforehand, because if your tank is already on the high end enough of the impurity does not get dosed to properly affect the bryopsis. Also beware that your salinity does not increase too much, as mg is a salt. Corals and fish should be able to handle these levels without issue.
A year or so ago, after seeing several posts on RC claiming running mag up to 1800 using just Tech M wasn't eradicating bryopsis... I decided to give Kent Marine a call. It took several attempts to talk to someone who actually understood what I was talking about, with regards to their product killing bryopsis. I finally got to speak to one of their chemists (or so he claimed to be) who told me about the formulation change, and he confirmed it was an "impurity" (as he called it) in the old formula that was probably responsible for eradicating bryopsis but also caused some other unintended side effects. As you might expect, his words were very guarded.

The stance that Kent has been taking this past year or so is that the formula hasn't changed, but rather they source their components from different providers, thus inconsistencies with the impurities.
There have been quite a few reports of success using Kent tech M throughout this calender year.
If that is true, then it's "luck of the draw" whether or not you get a bottle of bryopsis killing Tech M.
Kinda like CP sourced from China - sometimes it's 99% pure and that will eradicate external parasites in saltwater fish. Sometimes the little kid mixing the powder has a bad day.
