Fish building/man cave build!

I just picked up 240 sterilized blue hospital towels for $56. Won’t run out of aquarium towels anytime soon.

I was paying about $1.50 each for smaller terry towels. These are much better and lint free.

Did you get those straight from the hospital?

So, I am pretty good at visualizing things and thought I had a handle on the size of the room. It's much bigger than I pictured. :)

I have two of the 5 actual stands and tanks and the exact dimensions of the others. I did some more layout and the center of the room has plenty of space for a seating area and I will have a bigger desk than I initially thought.

Very pleased with the way this is turning out!

I should have two of the three walls framed, sheathed and wrapped and the window installed by the end of this weekend. Possibly even the insulation and wiring on those two walls as well. But, I am not pushing it too hard.

The short wall is framed and sheathed.

now to move everything around and get on the last wall. I think I am short about 10 studs and have about 5 or 6 too many sheets of osb.

the 12 foot tank is backwards so it will have to be turned around as well.

I’ll get the mess cleaned up and take pics soon.

Holy cow!

I helped a buddy get a 250 acrylic bowfront last night. What a nightmare.

We got all the fish and rock moved to a tank at his house that was already full of water and up to temp. There was over 300 pounds of oolitic sand in the bowfront that had to be gotten rid of and the tank had been setup for over 8 years.

Now, I have to clean up the bowfront, fix a spot on the stand, buff out some scratches then set it up and get it ready to combine the holding tank at the fish out of the 265 (minus some he's selling). This will take over a month on top of everything else I have going on. :(

On a positive note: I am picking up a five foot long all in one acrylic for the discus Sunday since my other buddy decided not to sell the 36x36 tank.

Quick update: I fixed a couple studs that were out of plumb and finished putting in the concrete anchors on the two walls that are done.

It won't be raining tomorrow so I will wrap the two walls, install the window and start framing the last wall.

It's getting closer!

Something occurred to me last night:

From one end of the system to the other it's over 22 feet. I worry about temperatures in this system. If the heaters are all about 17 feet from the farthest point, should I put some kind of inline heater on the return line to that tank?

I didn't have to in the store. The difference between sump temp and the furthest tank (about 13 feet) was about .5-1 degree F.

I imagine whether you'll need one or not will have less to do with distance, and more to do with turnover, heater size/wattage, and the difference between the tank temp and room temp.

Also, let's see some pics!

I would run your system first and check the temperature drop, inline heaters are a great solution if needed. Looking forward to seeing this all come together.

I think that the turnover will be the biggest factor as well. Thanks for the input.

I plan on getting some pics posted soon

I buy these used and sterilized as well. I find all sorts of blood and miscellaneous bodily fluid stains on the ones I buy though haha

Luckily, I haven’t. She said they go through them after cleaning and pitch the stained ones.
