Are a royal gramma and orchid dottyback compatible?

In my experience all Dottybacks are aggressive. Beautiful, but aggressive. I️ would advise against mixing those 2 fish.

The royal gramma is going to be protective of “his space” and not be too agreesive away from his space. IME.

Although the orchid dotty back is among the “tamer” dottybacks, it is still an aggressor. l would agree with James and advise against it. @eatbreakfast

I have kept both without issues in a 135. What size tank do you have? In this case .....size matters.

I have a 24x24 cube so it looks like I will have to pick one, my daughter loves them both so I will let her choose which one she wants.

Both will protect their territories, especially against similar fish, but neither are super aggressive.

If added simultaneously, and in a tank longer than 48" it can work, but I would advise against both in a tank 24"x24".
