Fish die off :(

1. Add some Bio-spira or Seachem Stability to culture the QT so you don't have to wait for it to cycle.

2. Might just have to suck it up on that one. You can add some small PVC fittings to give them cover.

3. As long as there are no fish in the tank, you should be fine.

4. Coppersafe or Seachem Cupramine will take care of both velvet and ich.

I had a die off about 7 months ago. I was trying to bring down the Po4s and make way to many water changes and striped the Bio load and stressed the fish. What I did was start feeding this along with the food. When I started feeding thinking I had Velvet, Ich I went to my LFS and they instructed me to start feeding this and long with MetroPlex. I add a couple of more fish and they died, buy my older fish were fine. I waited 30 with this feeding then added a couple fish and the Kid are happy now. I stopped feeding the MetroPlex but continue feeding this.

This we have that strain of velvet!! I've lost all fish I've tried to put in my 93g cube with in days of putting them in the tank. Yes the tank is cycled. All water conditions are perfect. We thought it was flukes.. we treated for flukes and then waited - added more fish and they died. Went through this a few times over the course of months.. We tried to add fish last Sunday - all died but a wrasse. So no my question - how to get rid of the velvet?

Don't put any more fish in for 30 days. Remove any fish you have to quarantine and treat with copper (might not be the best for wrasses) or chloroquine phosphate.

If it does happen to be a mantis you make a trap with a water bottle cut in half place food in it, then invert the top and reinsert into the bottom half. You place it close to the rock you think he's in and wait. Anything going on won't be able to get back out...you'll most likely catch a few snails as well.

Shortly after posting I realized that it wouldn't be smart to add my watchman and lawnmower into my 29G...don't want to spread it to my other tank!
So, can I put a sand bed in my QT tank as long as I get rid of the sand afterward? The watchman and lawnmower are 2 of my kid's favorites.

Sure, you can do that as long as you don't add it back to the DT after copper treatment.
