Fish disappear

Here’s my Coral Banded Shrimp having caught and eaten a Talbot. (Not the first fish he killed, either.) To be clear, it was a small nano tank (7-10 gallons, if I recall), so fewer places for the fish to hide.

Killed or found dead and eating the carcass? I would look closely at overall fish health, appetitie, breathing ( signs for distress) to rule out health issues

Most preditors hunt at night. If fish is visible during the day and gone the next night, I would tae a stick and suft through bedding to see if anything unusual pops out of the sand bedding.

So it could be a variety of things. If these are new additons they likely have an underlying disease you arent seeing. If you dont quarentine, internal parasites may wipe them out very quickly. Also stress for these tiny fish. Ammonia poisioning if they were shipped in to your LFS and you got them the same day. What is your acclimation like? The tank may be too small and they may jump? What size is it? If your tank is at a happy level of equilibrium, throwing a couple new fish in and adding extra food to compensate may be throwing a big wrench in the tank's stasis and causing levels to spike and killing the new fish. There are literally 100 things.

Faster than normal breathing, hanging out at the surface, raised spots or dots and patches of discoloration

Oh yes mine was in there for at least 8 yrs without knowing he was in there. I was having exactly the same issue.

I would be on the lookout for this creature at night, the Bobbit Worm.
Use a red light to spot your nocturnal tank inhabitants.
These things can live in your tank for years and be completely undetected.

Had that happen to me but they do not eat the fish they kill it then the crabs finesh it.

I lost another fish, but I found it dead. I am going on vacation for a week so at this rate I my not have any fish left but my clowns. I don’t know what to do or what is wrong. Any suggestions?

No, I have never even heard of that. Nothing looks wrong with any of the new fish which the blue demsal were add with. Is the band shrimp killing them?

Try the freshwater dip to check for flukes, a disease sounds very likely

YES you would be surprised.... That said this sounds more and more like a disease or a problem with the source of the fish (cyanide?) or something else than a murderer
