I have a 20 gallon that I've turner into a quarantine with a 55 gallon rated hob filter and it is near a window so It still has some light.
I have a sailfin moly living there just for me to know its not the waters fault.
The parameters are
Nitrite and ammonia are 0
Nitrate .25 ppm
Ph 8
I added 2 bangaii cardinals and one algae blenny. Only one cardinal survived the first night and the sailfin moly was ok.

I did not treat them with anything. The water in the tank is the water from the display
