I have 2 yellow tangs that after a year of living together happily started fighting. Well lets say one started fighting and the other started getting beat up. I also have a purple tang that would jump in and gang up on the yellow that was getting beat up but he will not pick on the yellow unless the other fish does first. Well I pulled out the aggressor and put him in my sump. i dont really want to get rid of him because my wife has an attachment to him so how long should I leave him in the sump before he gets to go back into the display tank? What would you do? Thanks in advance.

Ricky,

Moving the rock, is'nt really an option. My rock is set up on four tall pillar type structures and they are all pretty full of sps.

Ricky,
Hmmm maybe just try to leave him out for a couple of days and put him in when lights are out. Not sure if that will work. If he still does it may be a half hour in the freezer will do it:cry:jk

LOL some people don't realize how much work and hassle it would be to move around hundreds of lbs rocks in a 300g+ DT. It would be easy to do if it was in a 90g and under DT where you don't have so much rocks to move around. I did it all the time in my 40b. However I wouldn't even think about rearanging my rock work in my 270g DT unless I want to dedicate a whole weekend into reaquascaping LOL..

you could take out the bully and drop him in the QT for a few weeks and let the other establish a territory. then REintroduce the offender and all should be well.

I don't even think that would matter. If its started to beat up the tang, imo it will keep it up even if you move the rock. Some tang's are just very territorial after they mature.

Yeah not sure what to do. I caught him by pure luck. The fish have gotten used to my tongs in the tank and becuase of that I was able to reach in and grab him out while he was trying to get at the other fish. As far as moving the rocks I agree with Roscoe. I have close to 500lbs of rock in a 450 gallon tank, and all of the rock is darn near full of corals. I will give him a week in the sump to think about his behavior. My only concern is that the chamber that he is in is only 10 gallons or so and the water is only about 7 inches deep. Do you think that he will be fine in there for that long?

Ricky,

One trick I have heard of (but not used myself) is to use a clear, plastic container with a lid. Drill holes all around it to allow water to flow through, and place the agressor fish in it. Leave the container with the fish in the main tank for at least two weeks. Then release it back into the main tank.

You will have to feed this fish by adding food into the container.

Good Luck And Have Fun!!!;
:haha:

secretly sell the yellow tang and purchase another of same size so the wife doesn't realize!:tongue::tongue::tongue:
