I’m looking for a good single fish to keep in a berghia breeding tank. Does anyone have a recommendation for something that is interesting enough but won’t be a predator in any way, even accidentally? My clown eat pods, so I’m afraid a clown might eat newly hatched berghias.

Secondly, did anyone build the berghia tank from the book by deme banger, and notice that the crushed coral gets clogged, overflowing the berghia chamber? I tried and it didn’t work, so I ended up having a small HOB filter in a tank on low speed. But afraid they’re still going to crawl into the pump.

Interesting question! Do you think that the fish and fish food would cause water parameter variations that may have a negative impact on the breeding? With your question about the HOB, if the intake is exposed in the tank it would seem that some of the unsettled larva would get sucked into the filter.

My goal with the fish in the berghia tank would be to maintain the nitrogen cycle I guess. And I have a separate aiptasia tank that I’m going to ad a fish to, so that I’m also feeding the aiptasias.

For the Hob filter, I just don’t know any other way to keep flow going in the tank. I might try a shrimp filter or maybe just an air stone on high, to encourage some water flow?

edit: I think I mean sponge filter lol

A pair of sponge filters on opposite sides of the tank will likely generate enough movement

The waste from the Berhia (although minimal) would seem like it would be enough to feed the bacteria on a Brightwell bio cube (or comparable).

The sponge filter or old style canister filter would seem likely the most reasonable option, unless you used a double chambered solution (it sound like you have already been down that path).

Yeah I did. I used the crushed coral, which is pretty large grains, and it kept clogging up.
I guess I could skip the fish then for the berghia tank at least, thanks! I’ll add one to my aiptasia tank though so they also get fed along with the fish.

I don't see an issue with adding fish or inverts to the Aiptasia tank. You may want to consider algae-eating fish and an arrow crab to limit the bristle worms.
