Does anyone keep fish in their frag tank? If so what are some recommendations for a 20g or less frag tank. Fish would be for looks and I believe the fish waste would be of some benefit to coral growth.

Some keep a wrasse to pick off pests and a algae blenny to keep algae in check. Other than that fish aren't really needed. There are coral foods you can add if you're looking for something for the corals to eat. I have a pair of clowns, two blue damsels a clown goby and a starry blenny in my frag tank. No particular reason for having them in there other than I don't have another home for them right now.

20 or smaller I'd go with tail spot blenny if u want algae help, maybe a six line/ flasher wrass if it's a 20 gallon. Other wise if you just want some activity in there and to contribute fertilizer as it were, fire fish I find like going in and out of egg crate. I wince saw a frag tank with a few sailfin mollys that were acclimated to saltwater and they looked great, and cheap.

Fish are great for a frag tank, as long as they are not coral eaters. Wrasses and tangs (if the tank is large enough) can be helpful to manage pests and algae.

A frag tank is one of the only times I recommend a sixline wrasse. But if was my 20g frag tank, I'd have a single sixline in it.

The tank is too small for a Halichoeres wrasse (ie - melanurus).

A neon dottyback. Because they are so aggressive, it would have the whole tank to itself. They are such a beautiful fish.

A colony of barnicle blennies. It would be so amusing to watch a colony of barnicle blennies popping in and out of a wall of dead barnicles...I am actually planning this settup for myself when I get a frag tank. It's just that, you can't keep them with other blennies and they are so small that you can't keep them with most other fish.

Get a REALLY cool eel like a male blue ribbon eel. Then you could put a 6 line in there or any other cheap wrasse, that way if the eel gets him...go get another.

Basically what I am saying is, turn you frag tank into a dedication tank for something that doesn't go well with others.

Tank you for your time,

Kevin
