I’m setting up a frag tank this weekend. It’s going to be a 2’x4’x10” tank and looking for fish to do a job. Was thinking of a tang and a wrasse. I don’t want to add a cover or net to the tank for ease of maintenance. Was looking for suggestions and what other people have done. Thanks :)

Not having a top is a big no-no with wrasses. Otherwise one of the smaller tangs (yellow eye kole, tomini, etc.) would probably be fine.

All fish can jump so having a cover is highly recommended. Normally I don't recommend the 6 line wrasse but they do work great for frag tanks.

I don’t mean to be that guy that’s knows nothing what is a frag tank:|

So basically a only coral tank k with a little bit of fish
Pretty much......not mine, just an example

You can do wrasses in frag tanks. But be prepared for them to jump. In have tired many wrasses in my 2 frag tank and they all jump. So save your money. Learn from my mistakes. Like the other person said the yellow kole tomini. Basically the zebra and bristletooth species of tangs work great from a frag tank. I currently house a yellow belly hippo with a white tail tang and a scopas in one of my frag tangs and a 2 barred rabbit fish and a tomini in the other. The hippo will be rehomed to my 265 once it puts on some size

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I’m going to start with a yellow tang and try to get the smallest one possible. I’m going to do a little more research on possible frag tank fish but I’m leaning towards getting a diy cover from bulk reef supply and putting a net on the tank for a wrasse. Was leaning towards a Melanarus wrasse and just getting a small grad container and adding some sand to it for him to sleep. I heard six line wrasses are great for pests but also heard about what nightmares they can be.

Sixlines and their close cousins are perfect for frag tanks. They also don't need sand, unlike H. melanurus.

Okay do you think a yellow tang or other tang will be able to deal with a six line. Don’t want the six line to absolutely kick they’re butt

The tang can take care of itself. There are very few fishes that can bully a tang...usually other tangs. But I don't necessarily like tangs for frag tanks, although many people do.

Actually all fish DO jump. It's just a matter of time.
Not having a cover for me means no fish at all... I have learned my lesson and I am not going to make that mistake ever again.

I have a kole tang in mine and have lost 2 wrasses from jumping so far. A yellow tang and sixline have always been fine in my other tanks.

Okay so I have decided to add a bet to the tank. I will be doing either a yellow or kole tang with a six line wrasse.
