So we consolidated our 2 shallow reef tanks into a standard 29. Current fish are a Yellow Clown Goby and a Red Banded Shrimp Goby with a Candy Pistol. What other fish (besides Clowns) would make good PEACEFUL tank mates? Looking for fun, interesting additions. Also in tank are 2 Rock Flower Nems, Porcelain Nem crab, Skunk cleaner, Peppermint, and a Sea Serpent Star. Thanks in advance. =)

*warily looks both ways*
*whispers* you could get a small tang
when it starts getting too big, you can bring it back to your LFS and exchange it for a smaller one.

*sirens in the distance*
Oh no! the tang police! I've said too much.

I'd stay far away from the tangs. I'm no tang police, but finding one small enough for a 29 is hard and most grow quickly. Plus they will be aggressive in a small tank, especially as it grows. In my 29 I had a valentini puffer, super peaceful and never harmed a single coral or CUC member. They are considered reef safe "with caution" as some do pick at snails/hermits. I also like purple firefish, yellow striped cardinals, PJ cardinals and Banggais. Some damsels are also suitable (QT blue/green chromis though, I learned the hard way that they can and will bring Uronema into your system)

LFS had few mentioned.. Jester, RG, PJ, firefish, some blennies, even the little puffer. Decided to try out the Jester to start off. He's a wee shy so far but hopefully he will settle in well. After he does will look to adding another in. Thanks for suggestions, really helped ya'll. =)

Unless you want to spend extra time balancing water quality I would not advise any puffer, plus a puffer would not fit in with your corals and inverts.

I like Royal Gramma and the Dartfish.

Yhea, after doing research I decided against the puffer. Just seeing one there made me squee as I adore puffers. Right now going to give the Jester some time to find his way and feel safe before I decide on another fish for the crew. Although I seem to be turning this into a goby tank..lol..not what I really planned. =)

I'm just curious, why do you bring up water quality? I have a valentini and have pristine water. Do they dirty the water like goldfish do?

Puffers are messy eaters and they can eat a lot. I found that the smaller variety is also a little messy at times but its not the same as a porcupine or dog face puffer. I would not add a puffer with really small fish or most inverts as they become lunch. Royal Gamma would be my choice.

Wow, my little guy is really neat, and any small pieces he accidentally rips off are caught by the clowns and tang (his favorite food is seaweed so it works out pretty well)
