I'll be in philly Chinatown tonight. Can i get silver sides or whichever fish that's good for my tank cleaners like serpent star, crabs etc....

Has anyone tried other fish from the fish market....i guess anything that's fresh and small like anchovies are ok?

Maybe?

We have 8 serpent starfish in a 75 gallon tank.

I overfeed the fish just a little so a small amount makes it down to the bottom.
Maybe 1/5 of a frozen cube a day?

Never intentionally fed them much more than that.

Had them for 2 years.

As long as you started out with a single 1/4" mashed up anchovy and observed from there, it might not hurt anything.

Keep a close eye on ammonia and nitrates.
Test every day or twice a day.

How many do you have?

Heck yeah, I save so much money at the asian market. In the frozen section you'll find a huge bag of smelt, this is what the lfs calls silversides. You'll get a huge bag for like $8, it would cost you $40 at the lfs. I get squid, octopus, and silverfish also. Check in the section with the shrimp, they have krill which they call tiny shrimp, they are whole and are the color of human grade raw shrimp; cost I think about $4 for what will cost $20 at the lfs.

Will do thx....
Only thing about frozen even when raw uncooked, can't be sure if they added any preservatives.

Read the ingredients, you'll see the ones that are pure. this is human grade food. Hate to wake you, but they spray preservatives on fresh fish. The stuff you get from the lfs ALL has ethoxyquin as a preservative, they do not have to list it on "food not for human consumption", it's a big time cancer causer. There are many more preservatives and such that they do not have to list. If it does not explicitly say "preservative free" "does not contain"; it does. For dog lovers that feed your dog fish based food, check your labels; food from Canada is more pure for dogs than human food is for humans in the US.
