The last time I did an order online, half of the fish died to ammonia burn on their gills, due to bad shipping practices. Well this time I plan on dosing seachem prime right into the acclimation container, is this a good plan to keep the fish from getting ammonia burn?

The ammonia isn't toxic until the bag is opened.......I do dose Prime into the bags whenever I receive shipped livestock. Some people just immediately remove the fish from the bags.

I use this quarantine procedure now with a very high success rate.

I've read similar, that the rapid rise in ph (upon opening the bag) causes the accumulated ammonia to release and burn the fish. I like to have the qt set up and heated, but under filled at a salinity about 33ppt. While temp acclimating the fish bags, I puncture a very small hole and test the salinity.

It's then a simple matter to water down the QT with RODI until salinity matches and the fish can go straight in without being burned in a drip acclimation. If it's an hour drive home from the LFS, then I drip acclimate.
