This is another of those disagreements between me and hubby. He thinks one way, I think he's wrong. or actually, I am not sure what to think.
This is just a hypothetical question as we are not yet ready to do this but will be in awhile and we got to talking about "how to do it" ....
Moving 5 chromis from QT to DT. I'm doing a 50% water change on these guys every day, using water from our DT. There is a temperature difference between our QT and DT ... not a big difference, maybe a degree (our thermometers are not high quality so we are not actually sure of the exact temperature in each) But each day, the fish get a 50% influx of slightly different temperature water and they are doing fine, no problems
But when we go to move them all into DT, do we need to do any kind of acclimation to account for the temperature change?
two options as we see it:
1. fill bucket with about 1/2 gallon DT water and 1/2 gallon QT water. Net the fish. put them in there and let them be for about .... 30 minutes or so. Then net them again and put them in DT (to keep QT water out of DT
2. Do a 50% water change in QT. Then fill bucket with 1/2 gallon DT water. Net the fish. put in bucket, carry bucket from room with QT to DT and just pour them in

I feel the multiple netting will cause more stress than any potential temperature difference. (I am in favor of option 2)

I know this is really anal but ... well .... figured I'd ask if anyone has any thoughts. (I hate netting fish btw)

Personally, I would be concerned with a one degree temperature difference. I would be concerned with multiple nettings.

I don't think 1 degree would do a whole lot but the easier solution would be to place them in a large bag with some QT water, rubber band it shut, and float it in the display for about 15 minutes to bring the bag water to match display. Then pour out as much water as you can and try to catch them with a hand or pour them into a colander to transfer them to the display without water.

One degree is a bigger deal when the fish has been moved multiple times from wholesale to fish store to your home. But these guys have been steady in your QT and eating. Probably relatively stress free. So, the temperature won't hurt them. If it was 5-6 degrees it would be more alarming.

ahhh .... the bag idea. Yes, hubby mentioned a bag but I thought that might freak them out too! Fish in bags freak me out even more than nets. But that seems very logical

Honestly, 1 or 2 degrees wouldnt concern me at all.
I usually drip acclimate fish/corals just for the new parameters. If your DT and QT are the same for parameters, net the booger and toss him into the DT. No mess, dont have to worry about acclimation.
Plus, from what I understand, chromis are hardy fish.

yup ... DT and QT have virtually the same parameters although I battle nitrates in the QT due to heavy bioload in small QT. (hence all the WC)

I know its a no-no but any of my tanks, because I know them and what their parameters are, I switch things around all the time. Corals to get different lighting, fish to take care of problems-although not fish so much anymore.
Definitely CUC get moved around a lot depending on which needs more haha
The only time I acclimate is when I get things from outside sources.
Its all about knowing your tanks inside and out.
I get "lectured" from certain people sometimes but I know my systems better than anyone and I havent lost anything yet.
