One of my clowns got chopped up today in the powerhead. Not home yet but better half said he was shredded. Obviously I know I need to get all of the pieces out so not to get an ammonia outbreak. Plus side is I've been slow to stock and my only other inhabitant is another clown in a 100 gallon DT. Prepping QT for wrasse next but haven't purchased yet.

Is there any other considerations I need to address so not to have issues with the tank?

Had that happen a while back with a lawnmower blenny. I turned off powerheads to re-route the plug. In that little time he snuck in and I plugged it back in and saw pieces f something fly out.
Had no clue until I saw its face laying on bottom- Uh Oh

Secure the powerhead so it doesn’t happen again.

At that tank size even if you don’t remove you shouldn’t see an ammonia spike.

Ouch, I'm sorry for your loss.

I think 100g should be ok. When I got an ich outbreak I lost 2 small fish (they disappeared) in my 55g and I got a lot of GHA but the other fish all did fine, but I had a lot of live rock. Depends on your system.

You could dose something to remove ammonia or do some water changes. Seachem Ammonia alert badge might help keep an eye on the ammonia if you're worried.

Out of curiosity, what powerhead do you have?

You may be better off euthanizing him. Google freezing or clove oil.

Any idea how this happened? Do your powerheads stay off for a period of time, then on?

I would think the PH guard would protect from getting "sucked in"

My condolences, that is horrible.

Unsure what kind of powerhead you have, but knowing how often my blenny snuck into my MP40s, I got these.

So now I feel relieved and terrible at the same time. Nemo is okay I don't think he got hurt at all. Much better because my wife stated he was dead and shredded now to find out something else, no idea what considering I only have two fish. When they heard the noise they couldn't find him.

I'm sorry but thank you all for the support I was not looking forward to cleaning up tonight.

I have a Jaebo 40 and now I'm definitely going to look at some cover because this was scary.

My Tailspot would go in them when they were off. I switched to a ramp program so they would slow down but not shut off. I had to be diligent on checking the PH's during the off period when feeding to make sure he wasn't in one before turning them on again.

No longer have him and miss this little guy's antics.

Not to sound weird but what does a fish that go thru look like? I ask cause I’m missing a wrasse(could be hiding) but I turn off my powerheads during feed mode. I randomly noticed a white slimish stuff float around the tank but no actual parts.

Some wrasses build cocoons around themselves at night- is the substance web like or slimy?

Yes it was more weblike. Almost like scrapping white film algae off the glass with the pumps running. I thought it might have been the mucus getting kicked up from the rock work. She was a new addition and has been missing since Sunday. I know they can hide for long periods of time as well so just trying to rule things out

You don't have to find all the pieces of fish. Just leave it there as it won't hurt anything.

Bacteria will make very short work of it.

I awoke the other morning to half a Pepermint Shimp exoskeleton hanging out of the power head. Thought he got sucked in and started to panick but then later he came out from under some rocks when I tossed food in the tank. Turns out he melted but my wife was a little upset when we thought he had died.

yeah not worried about finding the parts more what it looks like. Is there chunks or does it get blended to rods fish food like it went thru a processor
