Fish got stuck in pipes

I love how there's no minimum order for free shipping. Ordering a few of these if my LFS doesnt have them (They're usually good with stuff like this, but we'll see)

If you remove the ball valve, will your durso's start sucking air? Water too low in the overflow? Do you run anything else off the return pump?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to help.

sorry, I missed this! if I removed the valve, it will cause a lot of splashing in the sump, I had to slow the flow a bit

It's all good. My only concern with using strainers is they have a tendency to get nasty with algae over time and possibly forget to check them. Not huge problem and probably a non issue clogging before a overflow issue in DT. You would most likely see the water level was higher before an overflow of the DT. On the other hand, a large enough dead fish stuck to one could be a real problem for a overflow though. They will restrict water flow to some degree.

If it was me, I would just secure the netting over the overflow and call it a day. No strainer.

Have you tried to put anything with weight to it on top of your mesh top to hold it down over the overflow? You could get some plexi-glass and cut it to the shape of the overflow. Glue a couple of the cut off pieces underneath the cover to hole it into place. That's what I did for my overflow and it works well. All it takes is 1/2" of open space for them to get out. It's like they play dare with each other to see who can get through the crack. Lost my Flame Wrasse pair to that. I was sick because the female wasn't turning for almost a year. Good luck!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I lost a few fish that jump into the overflow. Some I was able to rescue from the filter sock
