Hey all, I have a few questions I'd love some help with. I've had my tank running for almost a year now. The tank is a 45 cube. Its stable and there are no water perimeter issues.I have had two clown fish (Tank raised) in the tank the entire time...they are bullet proof. Over the past 9-11 months I've had flames hawks, angel fish, and a few gobies in the tank only to die within a few weeks to a few months at most. Is this normal? I don't quarantine, not sure the cheapest way to do this and if I did, how to treat a fish before placing him in my display. Not sure if my water has ick or any other diseases parasites....any thoughts? I don't want to keep buying fish only to die so soon. Is there a fish dip I coil buy? Or should I use another method? The clowns are good swimming around very healthy..just not sure where to go from here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you buying the fishes from the same place? Setting up a quarantine wouldn’t be a bad idea and let’s you medicate fishes as needed. Just grab a small tank, hang on back bio-wheel filter, some pvc pipes for the fishes to hide in, and then just wait for the tank to cycle. There’s a guide on what handy medicines to have just in case here on the forums somewhere.

There could be a lot of factors such as inadequate acclimation, stress, parasites, etc. Were the fishes eating while in the display tank?

yes fish where eating fine...i noticed once I introduced a new fish the other fish would die within weeks...slowly the fish that died...would stop eating after a while and then die.

When you were inspecting the fishes did you ever see any stringy white poop?

Some diseases (ich, velvet, flukes) mainly harbor inside the gills, out of sight.

This is why it is so important to QT: https://www.reef2reef.com/ams/how-to-quarantine.232/

In a QT environment you can either: 1) Observe for behavioral symptoms (head twitching, scratching, yawning, swimming into the flow of a powerhead) of diseases in the gills OR 2) Prophylactically treat for parasites/worms in the gills by using copper and Prazipro.
