So I have been in this hobby for about a year now.

Just upgraded from a 24ga nano to a 40gal tank.

I'm sitting here watching my fish....and a stray piece of seaweed (that came off the clip) went floating by, and all 5 fish in my tank smashed into each other trying to eat it.

The fish seem like they're always on the hunt for food.

I feed them 1x in the morning (pinch of spirulina flakes) and 1/2 cube of frozen mysis shrimp in the afternoon. Am I feeding too little?

Why do the fish seem hungry for?

Because they have nothing else to do but eat and swim and sleep...it's what fish do...any why people have high nitrates from feeding to much, lol
They will eat almost anything you feed them...

It's just how fish are. A healthy fish will almost never stop looking for food, even when it's full. It's how they behave in the wild.
As long as they're popping as much as they eat, your all good :)

My dotty back grabs his piece of shrimp and goes and hides...like a dog....he is the only fish I have that begs for food.

Totally normal... and also let's Me know they're happy/healthy! I work from home and feed my crew 3x/day. And they beg. I will "sneak" out from my office and there is my Naso, Angel and an anthias at the corner of the tank looking for me to come around the wall.

I swear my Naso has a double chin....

In the wild food isn't as plentiful and thus it is instinct to go after food at all times:)

The leading cause of fish death is over feeding if it's from nitrates leading to all kinds of problems or they will literally eat til they burst... a fish stomach is the size of its eye...keep that in mind.... small frequent feedings it what we all shood do.. I feed once when the lights are on for a bit and again before they go off.... and don't let any body else feed them unless absolutely necessary. .. I battling nitrates now because of that

I feed once a day at 7 pm. Every 3rd day I add a half sheet of algae at 8pm. The algae creates a frenzy with the tangs, that's why I do it after normal feeding, sorta makes its less of mass feeding frenzy . Lights out at 10pm. Like others said fish are always Hungary because that's the only thing they live for. If they have a visible belly they are over feed. If you can count their ribs they might need a little extra food .
