I purchased a dozen Chromies online. 11 of them are clearly Chromies but 1 is different and I am curious what it is.

I could not get a good picture of it but its the one on the bottom right. I has a different fin structure and a neon yellow lateral line with some of that yellow on the base of the tail. It is more brown than blue/green. The tail is highlighted with black outlines. It is growing faster and larger than the Chromies as well. I was unable to find something like it online. Any thoughts?

Aka spiny chromis - you can see why

Thanks for the ID. I knew you know. :)

I ordered from Saltwaterfish.com. I wanted a big school for my new 900 gallon system. I guess they didn't realize what they were doing when the filled the order.

So far, it is blending in well with the school. Not as pretty but adds interest.

I've mixed chromis with success in the past. Bicolor, orange line, and green/blue.

Hope you enjoy them and they behave!

They make great starter fish for a new tank. Inexpensive and a lot of fun to watch when you have a large group. I especially love to see them hunker down in the rocks at night. They are so tiny and they have the whole tank to themselves right now (8'x4'x4'). Despite all that space, they want to stay together so they all squeeze into the same spot. Very amusing to watch :-)

I am hopeful that they remain peaceful as I begin to stock the rest of my fish.

I too am hopeful! They are neat, if I had a very large tank I might have some as well!
