Possibly, but the mouth looks different than most blennies I'm familiar with.I suspected some sort of blenny.
I have sent pics to them. Waiting for a response. Closest ID I’ve found so far is the hairy blenny (Labrisomus nuchipinnis) or maybe the large mouth blenny (Labrisomus xanti) which are found in the same waters of the giant hawk.Possibly, but the mouth looks different than most blennies I'm familiar with.
Did you send the pics to saltwaterfish.com?
I should have read your post first, lolMaybe a
Labrisomus nuchipinnis?
Nope, I think you're right -- hairy blenny.But... the ventral fin looks more like a kelp fish...
Chironemus
The Chironemus look pretty similar as well. The tufts above the eyes made me think blenny which Chironemus appears to lack.Nope, I think you're right -- hairy blenny.
Not sure what I’ll do with this guy. Likely keep him.Having looked them both up, I can see how someone would make this mistake, though obviously someone should have double-checked.
At least he's cool. Are you gonna keep him, or rehome him?
Yeah they start out white and darken with age. The new one will be in a 210g for now.I dunno, looks like a giant hawkfish to me when I googled it. It looks like from baby, to juvenile, to adult it changes colors. It gets up to two feet, you must have a huge tank.
