Can you get a top-down photo? Also is that a brackish or salt water tank?
That’s the only shot I received, from my sister at the doctor’s office. It’s in SW, because it’s with a chromis and a hippo tang. Cool colors and markings, and I couldn’t find anything quite like it online to ID.

edit, it was a live shot, so here is another look…just not much better.

That helped so much! I found a fish that’s identical to that. The Orange Saddle Fugu Pufferfish.

I know these as orange saddled puffer. What is unusual is These guys ahve not been around in years as they are found in Asia primarily China and Vietnam and collected from the Yangtze River during breeding season. The Orange Saddle Fugu Puffer are freshwater fish and tolerate Low levels of salt . Its in with a chromis that requires opposite and is a very rare imported fish and a known predator that should have likely gone after chromis.

A very unhealthy Orange saddle fugu. It looks to have a bad internal parasite infection.
Low brackish.
Not the rarest but certainly not frequently available.
Should look like this:

Hopefully you are able to fatten the little dude up some!
Not mine, it’s at a doctors office somewhere in rural Iowa. But it was unusual enough to try to figure out what it is. Cool color and markings, I also hope whoever owns it can fatten him up!

Hope then that you'll make/help them fatten up the poor little starving critter !!
It's a beautiful fish that needs food

These are like the salmon of the puffer fish. Spawn in fresh and move to saltwater to grow up. Cool puffer for sure
