Looks like a juvenile Desjardini Sailfin Tang to me.

Hope you have a big tank, those things get up to 16" long!

Have a 30 gallon. Is he compatible with a lunar wrasse?

Normally, he would be. In such a small tank it is likely he will act aggressively toward any tank mates you put him with. Normally a 6ft long tank (think 180g+) or larger is recommended for sailfin tangs.

I agree with @Brew12
I'm currently servicing a friends 300G that has a Lunare Wrasse in it and he bullies everything even in that huge tank, were about to remove it (if we can catch it) this weekend.

how big is the sailfin currently?

I have him in there with a blue damsel zebra damsel clownfish and hes ok with them

For now.

Researching prior to buying will save you tons of frustration when fish begin to misbehave (and they will), save your wallet and hopefully save some fish from less than ideal housing and husbandry. Different fish types = different fish needs. A hobbyist can't know that if they do not know the exact kind of fish they are purchasing.

I'm going to try to be polite.

PLEASE spend a few minutes and do some research before you go to your fish store next time and find a different one to go to. It's clear that they didn't care to inform you on what you were buying nor did they make sure you had a tank adequate enough for said fish. I would take it back and demand hem refund your money because a fish that can grow to over a foot does not belong in a 30 gallon for any amount of time other than quarantine. The same applies to the lunar wrasse.

I agree with the above but think it's a zebrasoma desjardinii, which is basically meaningless as it's still not a suitable fish long term for you at the moment.

K when i go to my lfs i always talk to them about the things i buy for my tank they all know me and know my tank size. So they tell me what not to get and what i can so i usually trust them. I went there last night was told i cant return either fish or trade. So really just gotta try getting a bigger tank. I do have alot of space in tank so they should be good for now right?

That's not desjardinii. It's Zebrasoma veliferum. The Pacific sailfin tang.
I do agree with everyone else here, in that, this fish will out grow a 30 gallon very rapidly. Especially with aggressive little damsels in the tank.

I agree with it being Z. veliferum, it's developing the yellow tail already, whereas desjardini has a spotted tail.

I am appalled that the LFS wouldn't take it back. As a big time supporter of the LFS, that just gives them a bad name.

Your tank could also use more rock. It helps with filtration and breaks up sight lines among territorial fish.

I strongly recommend rehoming the tang if a bigger tank is not in the immediate future, try reaching out to a local club to find a home for it.

So they tell me what not to get and what i can so i usually trust them.
Step #1: either stop going to that LFS or start realizing they are only telling you what you want to hear so they can make a sale.

I don't want you to feel like your getting beat up on, this situation is rather common unfortunately.
Use something like liveaquaria . com, or bluezooaquatics as a reference for housing requirements, or simply make a post here and we will be glad to offer advice.
theres plenty of info online that can help steer you in the right direction before putting a fish in jeopardy and wasting money on something that is likely to die.

That's what I meant to put, correcting the first id given in the thread but had a bit of a moment and confused myself.
