I was browsing reef stuff and came across a picture showing this beautiful swirl color fish, I don't know if this is trick photography or effect under blue light, but I'd love to know what specific fish this is. thanks

That's a type of freshwater african cichlid. It is an Aulonacara(?spelling may be a little off) also called peacock cichlids. There are a number of color variants.

No way....geez I feel dumb now. 
I thought that was in the Chromis family. I was browsing a page about tips on cleaning a reef tank and saw this. It didn't even occur to me it was freshwater. Thanks.

Dont feel dumb. They are the only fish that has the beautiful colors like saltwater fish and the fact that whoever took the picture put fake coral in the tank for decoration.No way....geez I feel dumb now.
that picture makes me want to start a tank with cichlids again.
