I bought this fish from my lfs. It was sold as an epaulette tang but I’m not sure that it is. Can anyone help me with identification? Sorry some of the pictures are grainy. They were taken on my phone. Thanks for any help you can provide.

The tail is fairly translucent but does have a hint of yellow in it.i don't see color in tail ,do see hint of blue n yellow stripes in top n bottom, although fish seems full darkened in last pic
I think you may be right. He does have blue and yellow highlights on his fins.I’m thinking the ring tail is right, blue highlights along fins?

Yeah, to me that is not a ring tail, it looks more like a happy yellowfin.
About a year and a half later and this is still what he looks like. With the ring more present at the tail I’m thinking ringtail still but my wife is still wondering. He’s a beautiful fish a little aggressive but the rest of my fish seem to be able to keep him under control. If anyone can give me a definite answer I’d be grateful. Please excuse the algae on the front of the tank.![]()
Thank you… he does look like a yellowfin. I may be wrong about it being a ringtail… just don’t tell my wife, she wouldn’t let me live it down.Yeah, to me that is not a ring tail, it looks more like a happy yellowfin.
It’s also a nice specimen too! It truly shows the yellow and silver bars in the dorsal fin!!Thank you… he does look like a yellowfin. I may be wrong about it being a ringtail… just don’t tell my wife, she wouldn’t let me live it down.
