Hi everyone,

One of my two clownfish decided to jump from the tank with the lid on today and sadly lost him. I now only have 1 clownfish and a pearly jaw fish.

Would it be safe to add another fish, if so any recommendations?

For sure you can keep quite a few more fish in a 55 and in fact it is a good idea to put in more fish before too long as clownfish are aggressive. It is just that their territory can be the size of an anemone, but given enough time they will take over. The clownfish having jumped could be a sign of stress from illness, however it is very common for clownfish to jump without any particular reason. I always recommend to QT all new fish additions. Quarantine is a scary word but the way I like to think about it is that qt gives the fish time to become familiar with you. That you are not to be feared but the one who brings it food and it gives them time to recover from any trauma they underwent being shipped across the world.
Some of my favorite fish include just about any flasher wrasse, Melanuras wrasse, Midas or black blennies, Watchmen gobies.

im sorry for your loss. In my 70 Ive got 3 chromis, 2 firefish, 2 clowns, a dwarf lion, marine betta, engineer goby, and watchmen goby, a mandarin dragonet, and two damsels. Depends on if you want!
