While browsing the new forum I came across a neat little thread asking of those who have or don't have fish in their frag tanks. I wasn't going to bring one into the frag tank but one person brought up a pretty cool idea. He said he likes to use "different" fish which aren't allowed in his display. Things like a dwarf lion or angler. Anyone have any ideas on this? Anyone keep fish in their frag tanks? I always wanted a lion :D

Eric

Well with my setups since alot of times I dont have enough room to hold all the fish that I bring in sometimes I do place fish into my frag system. I have never had a problem with that

I used to have a manderin and some wrasses for pest control purposes. another frag tank had a tang. same thoughts. great place for a lion if your frag tank is big enough and it is something you've wanted.

My Frag tank is a 90 gallon but I havent seen how the frag rack is built yet so I don't know if it will be possible....Time will tell.

I have a 90g prop tank that is home to a Yellow Eye Kole Tang, and a Green Manderin, both fat and happy!!

The Lion would be a neat idea... I would just be a little concerned since my arms are always in my prop tanks, and getting bumped by the Lion fish.... I guess it depends on how much your in the tank...

I have a couple of fish in my frag setup, a clown and a blenny (pest control). I think it's fine to keep something that will eat algae or minimize pests such as flatworms.

I have also read that the waste from fish will help your corals grow, but that could be some kind of reefing myth.:matrix:

I may look heavy into the lion for the simple fact they are gorgeous fish. I do know where you're coming from though on the hands being in the tank with a lion! LOL OUCH!!!!! I love the Emoticons they have here they ROCK!

all the lions i've had over the years have always went the other way and found a spot once a hand entered. I still usually wear the big arm gloves I have, but I can't say i've ever had a close call and i've had a lion of some kind for most of the years i've had salt tanks.

Yup, mine were like big labradors, always coming over to see what's up and beg for food. A little startling when they're both over a foot long! Never got poked though as the spines were always down when they came to investigate. It's only like a bee sting anyhow...

my refuge/frag tank (a 125) houses my clowns from my school tank in the summer and i have been thinking of adding a tang, a frog or some other fish just for fun. still thinking about it though - always issues to consider first
