My dang flame hawk, has got into my overflow. Anyone know any tricks to get them out? Or should I just not worry about it, and he will find his way back into the tank?

Hope he takes a waterslide ride down into the sump? o_O You use filter socks?

Yeah, I am hoping he will do that or work his way back into the tank. I guess I will just keep an eye on him.

I have a brachiosaurus blenny that has made multiple trips over the overflow, once all the way to the socks. I had 1/4" thick triangle ABS pieces made for caps on the overflows. They fill the gap between bottom of the glass tops and top of the overflows nicely. I also cut polyfilter strips and put them behind the weirs for extra protection with bonus filtration. As far as getting him out I used a spoon to keep him away from the overflow pipes and a small fishnet to catch him against the back glass.

I used to have a clown that made the leap all the time. ticked me off! I still have the clown, but there's no way into my overflow, enter evil laugh.

Anyway, at the time I would pull my drain pipe enough to get the overflow to drain but not enough to let him get sucked down, then just scooped him out with my hand. Couple times I pulled it too far and he rushed for it, made it to the sump unharmed every time.

Clowns are hardy fish, but if you can drain the overflow to have like an inch of water you should be able to hand scoop easily without harming your fish.

I might try that.

What Titan said. lower water in overflow and scoop him by hand. Make sure you have a sock in place. I have had a couple take the water slide to the sump with no harm to the fish. Its actually easier to just let them hit the sock. I had a goby that used to jump back into the overflow and make the ride into the sump so often that I started to think he was doing it on purpose just to play on the water slide.

My long nosed hawk did that the other day. Somehow he made his way through the overflow siphon pipe into the outer box. Kinda funny he was looking up at me like get me the F' out of here.
