Fish jumped into back chamber! (12G nano cube)

New guy here! Been a freshwater tank lover at home for a while, and got a 12g nano cube FOWLR tank recently (actually, bought tank 2 weeks ago, put fish in it a week ago). I have 13 lbs of LR, 2 stubby clowns, 1 blue damsel, and 1 six line wrasse.

this tank is on my desk at work, great conversation starter (had two other tanks that housed bettas before this) for sure.

This morning, got in to work, to find only one clown. Somehow, one got into the back chamber of my JBJ 12G nano Cube. Got into the chamber with the pump.

Thankfully the little guy was just swimming around in there and didn't get stuck to the pump.

There's very little clearance between the lid and the back, but I am wondering if I could/should add a small shield to keep this from happening again? Just not sure if there's a gap there for water/moisture control reasons?

Looking for ideas/suggestions. Thank you in advance!

Heres is what i did in my girlfriends 14 gal bio cube. i used gutter gard and put it between the lid and the lip. I can take some pictures tonight. My little clown jumped back there every couple days. Since i have added the gutter gaurd and eggcrate that little booger cant get back there. When i get home ill shoot you some pics.

That happened to me too. My little guy was just fine. I think it happened because my water level was too high.

Yes, you can make a shield and you should. I lost a clownfish this way.

Intank makes a fish saver for another tank but I don't know if he ever made one for the NC12. I made one out of plastic mesh and it worked fine.

I didn't, i tried it two ways and they both worked. I cut the plastic the size of all three back chambers and bent the edge on the tank size so that it created a lip that covered the opening. You couldn't see it when the lid was down. I also cut a piece the size of the chamber with my return pump so if he did jump he would be swimming above the pump and couldn't get sucked in.
