I have 2 tanks, one 525xl (139 gal) and one Nano 20gal. I’m a newbie, in it about 6 months... That said, my tanks are doing well.

My son has a fluval, 13.5 gal tank. Does weekly water changes (I make extra saltwater for him), checks water weekly, etc., just as I do. 2 clowns and some snails in tank. All was well until one day, one clown died. Next day the other died. All parameters were in check.

2 weeks later, water was still in check, put 2 new clowns in & both died within 3 - 4 hours.

LFS said to leave fish out for 4 weeks & continue weekly water changes, issue would likely work itself out. Did that.

Fast forward 4 weeks, all water parameters still in check, added 2 new clowns, both dead within 4 hours. Snails are still alive.

I’m at a complete loss here...... any ideas??? Obviously there is an issue...? Testing with Red Sea and Hanna...

No shock when sticking hands in tank, ever.

What are your actual water parameters including ammonia etc as that might help and also a picture of the tank

There can be many reasons fish don’t make it, acclimatisation, quality/health of the actual livestock etc

The way they die can tell you a lot about the reasons why. Gasping for air at top of tank, laying down at the bottom.

What's your theory as to why they're dying?
