I have 2 mp40s on my tank and I had absolutely no issue with them until now, a few days ago I had a small yellow tang get sucked to the side of my powerhead, I pulled him off ( no idea how long it was there) and it died about 2 days later... Now my mimic tang who is much larger about 4-5" long just got stuck to the powerhead I pulled it off immediately it was only there for 1-2 minutes at most. I just don't understand why it's happening? The mimic tang is completely healthy it eats like a pig and swims around. It is a new addition so maybe it just wasn't used to the suction and got trapped? I have 2 lil mesh filters over my powerheads since what happened to the yellow tang and it doesn't appear to have made a difference. I feel that of the fish is healthy it should be able to pull itself off no? The powerheads are both running at roughly 60-70% fluctuating power.

That sounds like a lot of pump in that tank.
You can't have too much flow; and nothing is getting blown around. My clownfish doesn't even get stuck to the powerhead and he sleeps on the rock right below it

This.

I am puzzled otherwise

The mimic is a new addition and the tank I got it out of was fairly small with no powerheads so I'm hoping it may have been just a 1 time thing. I just don't know why it wouldn't have been able to get off of it

This was my quick and dirty WP_20160402_20_09_24_Pro.jpg

Could be the power head fluctuates to 100% power once on a while? And caught the fish on perfect timing?

I overheard some folks at a fish store talking about the same issue. They suspected it had to do with a certain type of light that the fish were scared of. The lights they used gave off so much shimmer that it was keeping the fish on either sides of the tank which happened to be next to the powerheads. Is it possible your fish are trying to keep to a darker area of the tank?

Every time i've come across this topic, there seems to be two sides: 1) Those who believe healthy fish were pulled into the powerhead, and 2) Those who believe the fish was already on its way out, weakened, etc. I'm part of #2. My tiny Clown sometimes does the dance of death right above my MP10 and has zero issues zipping away from it. The other day, my Skunk Cleaner even swam up to the pump, landed on it, picked at something, then casually swam off. The undertow on these pumps is impressive, i've watched a hermit molt get pulled off the sand and get sucked to the side of the pump before. I've also woken up to shrimp molts on the side of it. My Bangaii sleeps inches below mine and as poor of a swimmer as these fish are, he has no problem getting away from it. Now, a weakened fish that may already be on its way out, I can definitely see that.

as can I that would be the most logical of answers; but the fish has shown no signs of weakness or illness, like i said he's only been in the tank for 2-3 days now and maybe was weak and frightened from the transport and just got caught off guard. Im not sure; all i know as of right now is the fish is continously eating off of the veggieclip and eating pellets.

I've only had that happen to fish who weren't doing well in the first place.

^^This. Typically fish that have been weakened (sometimes by disease) are the one who get stuck to pump intakes. A small YT I could maybe see, but a 4-5" Acanthurus Tang is a strong enough swimmer to avoid that happening (if healthy).

I have a Maxspect 250 in a 125 NEW tank. In the matter of 6 months of working on establishing tank, I have lost; (2) Bangaii, (1) Yellow tang, and (1) anomone. Each showed signs of fish remains on the Maxspect gyre. I do have the little mesh covers on it, but I don't see how that would help.
Originally I had the gyre set at 50%, but after losing the first fist (bangaii) I turned it down to 10%. Since then I lost another Bangaii. The worst when I lost the yellow Tang, which seemed to be the healthiest, faster, and strongest fish in the aquarium.
Now this morning, I wake to find my anemone stuck on the gyre! Not sure what else to do.....
