Hi,
in My DT 1 out of 5 chromis died 3 days ago.
The biggest one.
Some time around noon I noticed that it was hiding under rock not eating and breathing very very fast. He was fine during morning feeding.
~7pm mother noticed that he was gulping for air.
7:15 pm he was gone.
No velvet, no dots, no nothing on the outside. perfectly heatly looking fish.
did 'autopsy' Gut is filled with white worms.
gills were normal ... according to my mother - I have no clue. looked more red than pink but no bloodstains or obvious damage.
Background info:
New tank - 25 days old since first fish 2.5 months since first water.
All Chromises lived 1+ month in lfs in cooper, then 3 weeks in QT tank (no meds) and they were in 5th day of new tank.
I have extra fish - they are doing fine.
There is detectable levels in ammonia - 3 tests cannot agree how low but somewhere between 0< and 0.25 <- been like this ever since I put in chromis. Cycling was quite good when droping high level ammonia to 0.25, ~1ppm to 0.25 would drop in a day, but then would take a few days to drop to 0. Plenty of filter media and 3 brands of bacteria used. Yet nonsence persist for allmost the whole time. QT has only sponge filled overhang filter and it basically can process any amount of ammonia I put into it.
ICP is great (a bit low on iodine but fixed that), no3 and po4 are at 0 - despite my heavy feedign and dosing extra (have a big refugium, and well dialed in skimmer)
No other fish died (2 firefish, 1 wrasse, 1 diamondback goby , 4 cardinals and 1 tiny clown +blood red fire shrimp).
One chromis (smallest) has a Lymph or 'hole' sickness. But other then locking shaby he is active and eats like a pig.
Any ideas what happened to chromis?
