Fish less cycle

So I was reading online about this. I bought the non scented ammonia and have dosed about 6ml so far. Reading is about 1ppm. What should I bring it up to(some say 3,4,5?) how long do I wait to dose more? It's a 40 breeder with about 10 gallon sump. Then it says wait for it to come down and dose same amount?

Why not just throw a table shrimp in there or some fish food?

A local guy uses that and says 3ppm... but I've never tried it myself. Seems you would want it higher then 1 just because 1 can go away quicker w/ less bacteria needed and may not be sufficient to add fish and their waste w/o atleast another small cycle.

3-4 ppm no more then 4ppm.
