I have a had pretty stable reef tank for over year. Tank is two years old. No new fish but one five months ago . no new coral either for a year as I dont have anymore room in the tank. The tank is a red sea 625xxl. two weeks ago I went to closer fish store for my slatwater to save drive time. It was new only being in business a few months. Did my water change and bam velvet. I lost my clown tang first. Then my 9 inch blonde naso , yellow tang, queen angel, maroon clown, bi color angel , saddleback puffer , fox face and cherub angel. I tried to catch the clown tang and put him in a dip and treat him with ich x in my 30 gal. It took a hr or more to catch him and stressed him and the other fish out, so I left the rest of the fish in the DT and treated with ruby red kick ich, didnt help. however I have 6 inch sailfin tang and a coral beauty angel which have no signs of velvet and are swimming and eating fine, They are the last two fish left. Now my questions is If I still treat for 3 more weeks as the directions say and then leave the tank as is for 6-7 weeks will the two fish that are left be carriers. Do I have to worry about it just popping out of the blue someday. I know the velvet came with the saltwater I got for the water change, But will velvet always be present with two fish left in the tank and can they infect any new fish in the futrue. I do have two 100 gal uv sterlizers running constantly but turned them off and the skimmer for the time being for the kick ich treatment. I change about 80 gal of water a month . Anybody have safe plan I can use moving forward not to infect new fish.

Run fallow in main tank if you can. Period with no fish is 72 days. Seems long and it does, but also an opportunity to do two things:
- Add coral or rock at this time and fine tune your aquascaping and chemistry if needed

- Put away $50 per pay day and you will have at least $250 saved to buy new fish

Should treat I the remaing two with copper in the 30 gal tank. will that kill any chances of them being a ccarrier.

Treat in separate tank dosing at 80% of recommended dosage and remove carbon if present
